Position Title: AVID Elective Teacher
Department: Middle School
Reports To: Principal
Employment: 190 days; salary contingent on years of educational experience
FLSA Status: Exempt
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Along with duties assigned the AVID Elective Teacher engages students in advanced learning and problem based learning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required; a valid SC Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents and procedure manuals. Ability to speak and present effectively before vendors, administration and staff.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Have the ability to compute basic math skills.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of computers, related computer equipment and applications used in the performance of duties. Knowledge of AVID teaching and learning.
SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Advanced management, communications, leadership, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to assemble and analyze information and make written reports and documents in clear, concise, and effective manner. Ability to use independent judgment such areas as handling difficult situations, setting department priorities, making recommendations, determining and acting on needs assessment data as analyzed.

Work is conducted primarily indoors with little to no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Physical demands are generally restricted to general office work requiring the occasional lifting and moving of items weighing up to fifty pounds. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during an entire school year. Conditions of employment are adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually according to Board Policy.
