Job Description
The Melville laboratory in the Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech is recruiting a laboratory technician who can independently oversee and help with ongoing research activities. The candidate will also assist the PI with operational oversight of the laboratory including ordering supplies, maintaining lab equipment, etc. The candidate will be trained in the specifics of the job in a molecular laboratory setting and then is expected to function independently and responsibly while reporting directly to the laboratory PI. This individual will support research efforts focused on cloning genes and making constructs in bacteria.
Required Qualifications
* Use of standard lab equipment, including centrifuges, PCR machines, are expected.
* Experience with molecular biology techniques, including PCR, restriction digests, DNA isolation, and ligations.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
* B.S. or M.S. degree in Microbiology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or a related field.
* Previous laboratory experience in a biomedical research laboratory.
* Previous experience and knowledge of culturing bacteria.
