What you’ll be doing…
The successful candidate will join the Core Network Engineering team with responsibilities to data center engineering and deploy the network fabric configuration to support the Verizon Cloud Platform (VCP) applications and 5G Core environments. The candidate will assume engineering responsibilities for the Spine/Leaf fabric networks to successfully engineer, automate and deploy the network configuration in Network Equipment Centers (NECs) and other data centers. The candidate must work closely with the Capacity Planning, Design and Operations teams to implement our strategic technology goals in support of the Spine/Leaf fabric platform Enhanced Network Services Edge (eNSE). The candidate will work to support Verizon’s strategic technology goals including the ongoing migration of core elements to VCP and eNSE. The candidate will work to create an environment of teamwork and cooperation with all stakeholders including VCP-Engineering teams, Sys-Ops and Tier2 operations teams, various planning and design teams. The successful candidate is expected to engage, be visible, and lead by example. The environment is also moving towards utilizing more software for delivery on builds and customer onboarding.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strengths in the following areas:
· Plan, prioritize, and schedule maintenance window changes with many groups both inside and outside the office with minimum supervision during the daytime and then implement these changes during scheduled maintenance windows while adhering to corporate standards.
· Implement configuration changes and operating system upgrades for the directional Intelligent Edge Networks, including but not limited to: ENSE Fabric, NECv3, VCP Core environments, Video Content Data Network (VCDN), F5 load balancers/FWs, FES-V and Core connectivity leveraging modern automation tools like Python, NSO, DCNM, VTS, Pronghorn, and Nuage.
· Responsible for engineering IP edge networks at NECs/Datacenters to support the networking configuration needed to build and migrate the VCP applications.
· Engineer the IP (L2/L3) eNSE network configuration through the use of automated systems for configuration deployment.
· Read and understand new and changing design models and templates to support new application versions, migrations and deployments.
· Engage in developing automation for application onboarding on the physical and virtual elements.
· Working with underlay and overlay controllers for network creation, network modeling, and network deployments.
· Overseeing network builds from procurement to “In Service”, and deliver on time.
· Work with peer teams to ensure new networks are built and migrated to meet KPI’s.
· Able to review and prepare network diagrams using visio and other tools
· Project oversight, ownership, and troubleshooting.
This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.
What we’re looking for…
You’ll need to have:
· Experience with IP Layer 1-3 for Edge Networks and knowledge of MPLS.
· Experience with BGP, ISIS, and VXLAN routing.
· Knowledge of F5, A10, and Radware load balancers and FWs.
· Vendor Hardware – Cisco, Nokia, Arista, BigSwitch, and other networking technologies /certifications.
· Vendor Operating Systems – Cisco IOS, NXOS, Nokia SROS, Arista EOS, HP, Bigswitch, etc.
· Hands on experience with virtualization of networks/servers.
· Four or more years of relevant work experience.
· Knowledge of fabric networking.
· Willingness to travel up to approximately 25%.
Even better if you have on or more of the following:
· Nokia (Nuage) SDN solutions or Itential (IAP) automation tools.
· Familiar with packet capturing tools like tcpdump, wireshark, etc.
· Familiar with NMS tools such as sevOne, HPNA, HP Openview, Cisco Prime, Syslog, etc.
· A strong ability to understand end to end call flows for deploying network services.
· Familiar with automation tools such as GIT, REST-API, Netconf, Yang, JSON, Python, Ansible, Ansbible Tower.
· Familia with cloud computing systems such as Red Hat Openstack, KVM, VMWare Openshit, Docker, etc.
· Netconf / Yang knowledge.
· REST APIs.
