A. a degree in professional engineering from a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; OR
B. a degree in professional engineering that includes differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced that first-year physics and chemistry) in 5 of the following 7 areas of engineering science or physics: (1) statics, dynamics; (2) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (3) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (4) thermodynamics; (5) electrical fields and circuits; (6) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (7) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics; OR
C. be registered as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico; OR
D. be currently registered as an Engineering Intern (EI) or an Engineer in Training (EIT); OR
E. have successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.; OR
F. have successfully completed at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described above; OR
G. have successfully completed a curriculum that led to a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology OR in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology AND at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
A. completed 1 year of graduate-level education that is directly related to the duties of this position; OR
B. 1 of the requirements for superior academic achievement based on (1) graduating within the upper third of the graduating class in a college, university, or major subdivision such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses; (2) having a grade point average of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; (3) being elected for membership in a national scholastic honor society; OR
C. completed a 5-year program of study of at least 160 semester hours/ leading to a bachelor’s degree in engineering; OR
D. 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: searching technical reports to obtain information relating to projects; applying basic formulas to routine calculations; preparing graphs, curves, and tables for other engineers; and performing drafting and minor detail design; OR
E. a combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that is directly related to the duties of this position that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Employees selected for this position are eligible for promotion up to the GS-09 grade level while in the Pathways Program and up to the GS-12 grade level after successful completion of the Program.
