Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Office of University Communications is responsible for the strategic management of the University’s overall public relations and reputation management activities. The department provides leadership, counsel and services to over 200 communicators across campus and works with those communicators to ensure a unified campus-wide communications strategy. Areas within University Communications include: Executive Communications, Media Relations, Internal Communications, Content Development, Social Media, Marketing Communications, Strategic Resources, Issues Management, Community Relations, Public Records, the UNC-Chapel Hill Visitor’s Center, and UNC Creative.

Position Summary |
The goal of University Communications is to communicate effectively and market the institution’s outstanding educational experience, its impact on the quality of life in the state; and its prominent role on the national and international stage.
This position is a key member of the business operations team and works to keep communications platforms and systems up-to-date and optimized to provide the highest level of the support to the communications team. This position has a strong service-oriented focus and must be available and responsive to a variety of issues in a timely manner. This position is also a key liaison with campus ITS and other units on campus as necessary to consider and recommend technical solutions. This position is also responsible to keeping the staff up-to-date on technical developments and staying on the cutting edge of available technology, including alignment with campus IT policies and best practices. This position may also utilize their project management experience to assist the department as needed in this important area. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, computer Technology Integration, Networking Technology, or related area and one year of experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or
– Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or – Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, math or engineering or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. – Journey level required an additional one year of experience – Advanced level required an additional two years of experience. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Excellent written and oral communications and relationship building skills
* Experience supporting Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android OS. * Ability to evaluate, synthesize and summarize complex and sometimes technical information into content that general audience can understand * Experience with project management and technical support/solutions |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Previous experience with Microsoft 365 and Active Directory
* Previous work in higher education or with a communications-centric mission * Previous experience with Wordpress and digital signage * Experience managing IT security procedures to protect sensitive data |
