WUNC Radio provides quality news, information and entertainment programming to a broad listening audience that includes North Carolina, the United States and the world. WUNC serves North Carolinians from Greensboro to the Outer Banks through a network of seven stations, with a weekly cume of 300,000 listeners.

Position Summary |
The Executive Producer manages and leads the production team for WUNC’s midday daily news program. They oversee the daily editorial direction and production of the show. The Executive Producer will also book and produce interviews. They may host interviews as well. They will work with the Program Director to make sure the programs are informative, timely, journalistically-sound, and meet the needs of listeners.
In addition to working on the daily production of the show, the Executive Producer will work with the Program Director and news leadership team in setting the agenda for WUNC’s daily news service to listeners. They will also be called in to assist in managing breaking news coverage. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* A bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism, communication, public policy, or related field. Master’s degree or comparable combination of education and experience preferred.
* At least two years of management and supervisory experience preferred. * At least five years of experience as a journalist and/or radio producer, with increasing responsibility in each successive position. * Demonstrated skill in conducting live or recorded interviews preferred. * Demonstrated skill in researching topics for news and interview broadcasts. * A thorough knowledge of radio broadcasting equipment, including digital editing programs, broadcast consoles, phone screening systems and portable recording devices. * Experience at a listener-supported public radio station or network. * Experience with public radio or related not-for-profit fundraising. * Demonstrated ability to plan and meet deadlines working with materials from a variety of sources and collaborators. * Demonstrated ability to manage colleagues effectively and collaboratively. * Exceptional written and oral communication skills. * Creativity and initiative. * A familiarity with North Carolina’s issues preferred. |
