The Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) within the Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a full-time candidate who is a
detail-oriented, results driven individual to join our team as a HS Research
Tech 2.
In general, the ideal candidate for
the CTU HS Research Tech 2 position will perform standard
research protocol, under detailed and controlled research parameters, in a
health sciences laboratory, clinical, and/or field research setting. The
candidate will conduct a variety of standardized tests and procedures; prepare
data, samples, and/or specimens, and set up and operates standard laboratory,
clinical, or field testing equipment of standard complexity. The candidate will
verify and record data, and perform preliminary manipulation of experiment
and/or test results, providing basic data analyses, summaries, and
interpretations. This candidate will also have a firm understanding of good
clinical practices in conducting research strong interpersonal and
communication skill and the ability to work effectively with a variety of
university and community stakeholders. Depending on the study, these stakeholders might include: health care
providers, funding agencies, university researchers, and media representatives.
The ideal candidate will exhibit the
following characteristics:
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control
standards - Ability to use
scientific research software to analyze data and prepare statistical summaries
and reports - Basic knowledge and understanding of scientific research
methodology - Ability to collect and process research data and accurately
record findings - Knowledge of the use and maintenance of laboratory
facilities and/or equipment - Working knowledge of
research techniques, instrumentation, and/or equipment, as specified in the
research study - Ability to develop creative solutions
to routine research procedural problems
Specific duties will include:
- Scheduling and conduct CATI calls
for research subjects in English and Spanish. Developing and maintaining record keeping systems and procedures - Collecting and preparing comprehensive
statistical and narrative program reports, such as enrollment tracking for all
active studies
The Department of Internal Medicine is a large, progressive

- For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver’s license and valid UNM driver’s permit will be required.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
- Annual TB testing may be required if working in a patient care area.
High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
- Ability to administer
study instruments. Schedule CATI and conduct calls for research participants in
English and Spanish and follow study protocols to collect study required information - Ability to screen potentially eligible patients for study participation
- Experience recruiting
research subjects through identified recruitment methods and following up on
referrals - Experience monitoring retention rates of participants, reaching out to
participants through multiple means to encourage retention in the study - Knowledge of data
entry and data quality management, ability to respond to queries from the data
coordinating
center and enter data into tracking mechanisms to
track research participant study visits - Organizational skills to maintain
study documents, including questionnaires, consents, advertising materials - Ability to follow through to complete all on-going study required training activities
- Ability to work flexible hours, as required by study
