The Minnesota Center for Twin and Family Research (MCTFR) seeks to hire one undergraduate research assistant registered for study at the U of MN as “Data Manager UGRA” (2221: Student Academic Support). Data managers are responsible for the processing, organization, and storage of human subjects research data collected at the MCTFR. The Data Manager is appointed by the MCTFR’s Director and reports to its Principal Data Manager. The position is hourly and requires a commitment of about 20 hours per week during the academic year and 40 hours per week over summer break. Salary is consistent with Department of Psychology standards for undergraduate research assistants.
Major Responsibilities:
50% Process Paper and Electronic Data
Organize participant data (Checklisting, Pull-Aparts, Batching)
Markup of data forms before entry (Coding)
Data Entry and Verification
Error identification and correction
Filing/organization of entered data
Inventory and Storage of Archival Data
30% Monitor Participant Survey Completion Progress
Check & verify participant survey completion status
Sending emails or making calls to remind/prompt participants to complete surveys
Verify participant payments upon completion
20% Miscellaneous Duties
Committee meeting participation
Support administrative tasks
Support recruitment tasks
Other assigned duties
Essential Qualifications:
Undergraduate enrollment in U of MN degree-granting program & GPA >= 3.0
Efficient, honest, self-directed, problem-solving work ethic
Demonstrable keyboard proficiency & knowledge of computer structure/organization
Data entry & analysis experience
Initial training & probationary period occurs during normal University business hours, hours flexible afterward
Ability to work 15-20 hours during Semester & 35-40 hours during Summer

Preferred Qualifications:
Psychology Majors, but students from other fields in social, health, and information sciences are encouraged to apply.
Knowledge of using R programming language for data exploration, visualization, & report creation or a strong desire to learn how to extract, manipulate, & analyze data using R or SQL.
Students in their sophomore or junior years seeking to develop their skillset & knowledge in preparation for graduate/professional school, who are willing to commit to an employment period of one academic year & one summer (conditional on work performance and the availability of funding)

MCTFR
The Minnesota Center for Twin and Family Research seeks to identify environmental and genetic influences on psychological traits and brain development. Focusing on adolescent children and their parents, the MCTFR includes studies of twins, adoptees, and biologically related adolescent siblings. MCTFR participants are involved in a variety of projects including: assessment of psychopathology, psychophysiology, collection of DNA samples in collaboration with the National Institute of Health’s Genetics Consortium and MRI imaging of brains.
The Department of Psychology is one of the largest departments within the College of Liberal Arts, and is a highly ranked department nationally. Currently, the department has 46 core faculty, 70+ staff, 140 graduate students, and it supports the largest number of undergraduate majors of any academic program on the UMN Twin Cities campus. Additionally, the department has $40 million or more in active research funding at any given time (the majority from NIH), spread across 70 or more projects.
