Vaccine Protocol
The University of Maryland has made the safety of our students, faculty and staff, and our surrounding communities a top priority. As part of that commitment, the University System of Maryland (USM) recently announced that students, faculty, and staff on USM campuses this fall, including UMD, are required to be vaccinated against COVID. As a prospective and/or a new employee at UMD, you will be required to comply with the University’s vaccination protocol. Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Under the guidance of the Provost and Assistant Vice President of Finance, the Executive Director works collaboratively with key stakeholders to provide executive-level HR administration, strategic planning, direction, and innovation for the Division of Academic Affairs. The Executive Director serves as the division’s expert resource for all matters related to human resources. Areas of focus include establishing professional development activities, diversifying hiring pools, enhancing onboarding / offboarding processes, and serving as the division’s liaison with University Human Resources. Issues may include compensation, benefits, performance management, and employee relations. This position may also have input into university and USM human resource policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
An Advanced degree with 10+ years professional human resources experience. At least 5 years of mid- to upper level leadership experience required.
Demonstrated strong leadership skills including visioning, active listening, coaching, facilitation, and using data for decision making.
Demonstrated experience implementing a system for career path development, creating and documenting succession plans, and designing training modules to advance staff capabilities are highly desired.
A strong understanding of human resources information systems and a passion for implementing, recommending and learning new technology.
Strong understanding of Federal, State and local human resource laws. A comprehensive understanding of human resources best practices in higher education and the public sector .
Excellent oral and written communication skills and a demonstrated aptitude for cultivating good working relationships with people at all levels, internally and externally.
Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with a demonstrated high level of integrity.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Extensive experience with Microsoft Office programs.
Preferences:
Experience as a senior administrator with organizational experience in project management.
Higher education experience is a plus.
Additional Certifications:
SPHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
