DESCRIPTION
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is a vibrant and growing Orthopaedic Surgery Department of 48 full-time faculty and 50 voluntary faculty, 4 physicians on MSP contracts, 32 trainees, and 34 staff that supports and participates in the academic, clinical, and research mission of UC San Diego. The Department generates over $12M in clinical revenue, and $5M (NIH & other) in research grants and contracts, with total annual expenditures exceeding $30M. The Department is a comprehensive orthopaedic group located in San Diego that offers a full spectrum of musculoskeletal clinical care, specializing in foot and ankle, hand, joint reconstruction, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spine, sports, and trauma. Research expertise includes advancements in muscle metabolism and physiology, neuromuscular bioengineering, intervertebral disc, and musculoskeletal physiology and epidemiology.
Under supervision, the incumbent will serve as the lab assist ensuring all images are successfully run through a data processing pipeline. This includes, identify anatomic regions of interest in the spine, using imaging analysis software, summarizing data, statistical analyses, presentation, back up, and maintaining and organizing data. The incumbent will also ensure that the imaging spaces are clean and in working order, and perform general lab maintenance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or a GED and one (1) year of laboratory experience or two (2) years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences (anatomy and physiology of the human body); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated ability in the management of a large data set including images as well as other forms of data.
Knowledge of the operation of specialized image analysis software and experience with machine learning methods.
Experience with the operation of a personal computer and software, such as MATLAB, MS Word and Excel. Knowledge to work with and learn new software for analysis
Strong analytic, inductive, and deductive reasoning skills.
Good interpersonal communication skills and ability to work with others.
Proven experience with lab safety requirements and procedures.

Pay Transparency Act Full Salary Range: $38,983 – $45,184 Annually

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale. Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
