The mission of the UC Irvine Department of Physiology & Biophysics is to provide an environment which provides leadership and excellence in teaching and research.
This laboratory is focused on investigating the role of the immune system in muscle disease. the Laboratory Assistant I will learn flow cytometry, histological and tissue/cell culture methods. Under supervision, the Laboratory Assistant I responsibilities include assisting laboratory researchers with tissue collection logistics and processing. In vivo work with animal models of muscular dystrophy are essential aspects of the job, which will include but are not limited to treatments, functional assays, and mouse husbandry. Additionally, the Laboratory Assistant I will perform cell culture and optimize several in vitro cell culture assays that will be used for screening of biologics. Other duties include general lab maintenance tasks such as preparing solutions, maintaining cell cultures, ordering reagents, cleaning glassware, maintaining and following bio-safety and institutional review board protocols, and preparing sample labels.

$19.02 – $22.05 (hourly)
Required:
Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. 1-2 years of undergraduate research experience
Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field
Experience using mouse models is preferred. Experience in basic biochemical and molecular biology techniques, such as cell culture, PCR, western blotting and cloning are desirable. General exposure to diverse techniques in cell culture and rodent anatomy/physiology. Familiarity with optimizing/ troubleshooting experimental protocols. Experience adapting experimental design from published literature. Recording notes in a highly organized and efficient manner.
