Location/Division Specific Information
The Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD), enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries, increase efficiency, and ultimately change the world! The MSD Electron Microscopy business designs, manufactures, and supports the broadest range of high-performance microscopy workflows that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. Combining hardware and software expertise in electron, ion, and light microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sciences, electronics, and natural resources markets, the worldwide Electron Microscopy employees are dedicated to customers’ pursuit of discovery and resolution to global challenges.
Location: Provide Field Services throughout the NE to include (but not limited to): NY, PA, MD, New England areas.
Hours: Mon-Fri; 8am-5pm

How will you make an impact?
The Field Service Engineer for the Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific performs on-site installation, servicing and repair of sophisticated equipment and systems. Engineers investigate and improve operational quality of system equipment; instruct customers in the operation and maintenance of the system; serve as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects; and conduct on-site installations of the full range of Thermo Fisher Scientific electron microscopy systems and their associated options
What you will do?
As an Apprentice electron microscopy Field Service Engineer, you will be prepared for a successful career in field service and involved in a diverse team with exposure to a variety of customer applications. The successful candidate will develop the following skills during their apprenticeship:
Gain functional ability with reading and interpreting schematics to sophisticated analytical and diagnostic equipment.
Become familiar with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) and High Voltage technology.
Provide troubleshooting and repair support for customers and other field service personnel in a fast-paced environment.
Assist with on-site installation of sophisticated equipment and follow testing procedures to ensure functionality.
Conduct on-site planned maintenance visits.
Complete and submit field service reports.
Cultivate and develop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and company personnel.
Travel, often on short notice, to customer sites to resolve problems or support other field service personnel. Overnight travel may be required as the need arises.
Perform additional functions as assigned by management.
How will you get here?
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent(GED)
Possess a degree or certificate from a technical, military, or undergraduate program in electronics, vacuum, computer science, physics, engineering or similar field or 2 years job related experience may be considered in lieu of college degree.
Experience
Must possess valid Driver’s License
Operating, solving problems, repairing and calibrating sophisticated analytical tools and equipment.
Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) and Hight Voltage experience a plus but not required.
Experience operating oscilloscopes, digital voltmeter or other diagnostic equipment.
Proven customer service skills.
Computer/software skills (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word).
Proven verbal, written and presentation skills.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Required to read, write and speak English fluently.
Must have ability to acquire a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as the need arises
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Work under pressure, with a consistent record to make decisions with minimal direct supervision.
Detail oriented, problem solver, promotes team environment.
Displays a high level of confidentiality for both customer and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Must maintain Thermo Fisher Scientifics’ Four-I Values.
May work at customer locations, in office environment to include cubicles and/or in laboratory environments.
Extensive walking may be required.
Must be able to secure entrance to US Government laboratories and facilities.
Potentially pass through areas where chemical-based allergens may be in use (such as penicillin, tetracycline, etc)
Lift, push and pull 30-40 pounds consistently; may be required to lift 50 lbs.
Depending on area of building, personal protective equipment may be worn to include lab coats, coveralls, hood, facemask, hairnets, safety gloves, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, and/or bump hats.
Position requires Covid-19 vaccination and vaccination status disclosure upon employment.
