The Center for Black Health & Equity (The Center) is the leading nationally recognized public health entity for solutions impacting African American health. This Accountant coordinates, analyzes and reports the financial performance of the organization to the Director of Finance, Deputy Director, Executive Director, Treasurer, and Board of Directors on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis to include financial performance, projections and other special requests as required. This position works with the Director of Finance to prepare short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and external parties. The Accountant oversees audit and tax functions, coordinates activities with outside audit firms, and reviews the firm’s performance. The Accountant also works with the Director of Finance to develop, implement, and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures for numerous activities, including financial accounting and reporting and other organizational policies. The Accountant assists in the implementation of The Center, Inc.’s 100% Spending Plan to ensure all funding is spent in accordance with the requirements and regulations of the funder and the network’s financial policies and procedures. This position will report to the Director of Finance

Responsibilities

• Provide monthly QuickBooks accounting including but not limited to reviewing entries, completing reclassifications, reconciling all QuickBooks accounts, setting up new funding accounts, and entering grant receivables.
• Provide monthly reports of program expenditures for management team
• Summarize current financial status by collecting information, preparing balance sheet, preparing profit and loss statement, preparing the master budget spreadsheet, and maintaining all funding tracking spreadsheets monthly, which includes monthly expenditure data and other monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reports for the Leadership Team and Board.
• Meet with the Director of Finance monthly to discuss requests and provide updates. Meet quarterly to discuss the Quarterly Finance Reports submitted to the Board of Directors.
• Complete all filing and remitting taxes and other financial obligations including, but not limited to, W-2 and W-3 tax forms, consultants 1099 and 1096 tax forms.
• Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
• Prepare the annual depreciations, vacation accruals and grant-to roll-forward journal vouchers in QuickBooks prior to the yearly audit.
• Provide financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data.
• Recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options.
• Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents.
• Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
• Maintain financial security by following internal controls.
• Answer accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
• Comply with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
• Maintain customer confidence and protect operations by keeping financial information confidential.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Accounting
• 10 years’ experience in budget development and fiscal management
• CPA-Level Training and Certification.
• Familiarity with federal and state government regulations relating to fiscal responsibility and the Public Records Act.
• Familiarity with standard accounting practices and the General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Knowledge of the Intuit QuickBooks Online Accounting System, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5pm.

Compensation:

$70,000-$80,000
