Calvert Hall College High School, a Catholic and Lasallian college preparatory school, provides a diverse community of young men with a broad and balanced human and Christian education through excellent academic and extracurricular programs that promote leadership, achievement and service within the church and community.

We are seeking an English teacher capable of teaching a wide range of courses, such as surveys of British or American Literature and genre analysis courses focusing on poetry, drama, short stories and novels. Throughout all courses, candidates must be able to develop students’ writing ability, close reading, and critical expression.

There is a strong preference for someone who will be involved in our extensive co-curricular program, whether in athletics or activities.

Job Responsibilities:

• evelop student reading and writing skills, including those needed in research papers;
• engage in the teaching of different genres of literature;
• implement curricula in collaboration with fellow team members;
• develop and administers a balance of traditional and alternative assessments that evaluate content knowledge, grammar skills, and essay writing;
• share in giving course lectures;
• maintain classroom decorum, encouraging orderly and stimulating discussions and student participation;
• provide support both in the classroom setting and during established office hours.

• Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field; Master’s degree is preferred
• Knowledge of best practices with strong instructional and pedagogical technique is imperative
• Ideal applicants are well-read and interested in expanding the diversity of voices our students encounter.
