Position Overview

The Assistant Controller will be responsible for overseeing the accounting department functions with a focus on ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of financial statements and reporting. The Assistant Controller will execute a variety of financial procedures, including month-end and year-end closings, accounts payable, non-trade receivables, sales tax filings, bank reconciliations and general ledger reviews. Additionally, this person will be responsible for establishing and enforcing proper accounting methods, policies and controls. The Assistant Controller will provide back-up support to other members of the Accounting team as needed.

As the Assistant Controller, you will lead and mentor several direct reports and help foster a culture of excellence / continuous improvement mindset. You will work in tandem with other accounting leaders to ensure maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls, designed to mitigate risk, uphold the accuracy of the company’s reporting, and ensure that reported results comply with GAAP. You will interface with the company’s auditors and work with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely audit report. Compressing the monthly close cycle and leveraging Netsuite for additional automation and reporting capabilities will be a key objective to enhance the scalability of the accounting function. You will work with the team to execute the highest priority, efficiency-enhancing system improvement initiatives with the ultimate goal of supporting additional business complexity and 3-5x our current order volume.

Specific Roles & Responsibilities:

• Manage and provide the company’s general ledger accounts and monthly reconciliations
• Ensure the financial statements are reported in accordance with GAAP
• Assist in the Company’s financial audits
• Follow proper accounting procedures to reach financial objectives
• Monitor and analyze financial accounting data to ensure accuracy and completeness
• Oversee the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to: accounts payable, capitalized assets, revenue recognition, debt and sales tax
• Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships
• Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested

Qualifications:

• 6+ years of progressive accounting experience with a portion of it being in a supervisory role and some public accounting experience; experience working with SaaS companies preferred
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting
• CPA license
• Experience with hiring, training and supervising employees
• Thorough knowledge of US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), especially ASC 606
• Experience with Netsuite and salesforce.com preferred
