Position: Digital Communications Specialist

Reports to: Director of Communications

Location: Central Office – Denver, CO

Salary: $50,000-$60,000 based on years of experience

Status: Full time, exempt, in-person

THE CHALLENGE

To leverage your exceptional communications and digital marketing skills to support STRIVE Prep marketing and communications to stakeholders.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

STRIVE Prep is a Denver-based community of K-12 charter public schools that challenges every student to discover and develop the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in college and beyond. The Communications Specialist position reports to and works closely with the Director of Communications to ensure communications and marketing efforts are strategic and effective while achieving STRIVE Prep’s brand and voice in all communications and materials. Specifically, this individual will be responsible for supporting internal teams and communications efforts related to teacher recruitment, employee communications, development and donor relations, and website and intranet updates.

This position is part of the larger External Affairs team and will collaborate with others in the organization to achieve brand consistency, coordination of messages, and the highest standards for all communications. • You have a passion for working with others to create impactful digital content: You are skilled at understanding how to create different messages for different purposes. You have the ability to work closely with others and cross-collaborating on teams. You understand the importance of sharing messages which align with the voice of an organization.

• You enjoy using a variety of tools and platforms to communicate: Whether it’s social media, emails, or in-person materials, you are able to create content that is meaningful and impactful.

• You are adaptable and self starter: Able to manage competing priorities and change direction quickly if needed. Able to work on location for different projects, as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Leads and manages digital communications tools such as the website, intranet, videography, photography, social media and more

• Works with team to develop compelling digital storytelling content across multiple platforms
• Create and manage editorial calendar for, ideally drafting at least one main story about STRIVE Prep a month to be shared in various ways
• Manage and support with leveraging marketing tools, such as Hubspot, Google Ads, Google Business, and more, to best promote STRIVE Prep.
• Actively monitor STRIVE Prep’s online reputation and develop ideas to help boost it
• Work with the comms teams to track and analyze our digital presence, performance and impact across various platforms and plug these results into the network OKRs document. Make recommendations for how to be more effective and strategic with our digital tools.
• Provide network-wide communications support as assigned

Website and Intranet

• Conducts annual website audit of striveprep.org to ensure content is factual, relevant, compelling, and that the language best represents our culture and schools
• Collaboratively manage and coordinate the creation of fresh web-content
• Oversees intranet content and actively post announcements and other updates to the home page and other areas as needed

Social

• Works with comms team to upkeep the social media calendar and help plan 1-3 months out
• Pioneer STRIVE Prep’s social media presence, transforming STRIVE Prep’s presence to a strategic and engaging conversation leader on established and new social media outlets
• Use videos, photos, graphics, testimonials, infographics and other tools to make information and stories more compelling and engaging for our stakeholders

Video/Photography

• Plans and completes promotional marketing videos of schools and networks priorities to support student recruitment and overall positive brand image. Must work closely with school staff and other key stakeholders
• Captures photo and video content from schools on an ongoing basis. This includes managing an annual plan to capture content.
• Manages STRIVE Prep’s digital content “catalog” which can be shared with others for use, including identifying “selects” and other appropriate content

Technical Skills

• Skilled in creating short marketing video using a professional video editing software such as Adobe Premier
• Profecient using the entire Adobe Creative Suites, specifically in InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
• Comfort and experience using various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Vimeo.
• Expertise with online platforms: content management systems for web/intranet, e-newsletter services, and social media
• Ability to create compelling graphics in Canva

Additional Duties

• Demonstrate strong writing skills which are adaptable across all communication platforms.
• Execute thoughtful schedules and timelines as part of the editorial and planning process
• Collaborate with Central teams to develop STRIVE Prep brand and visual signage to elevate the look and feel of needed materials.
• Identify relevant and trending topics to stay ahead of the curve
• Stay informed on news, trends, and updates in education locally and nationally

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor degree
• 1-3 years of professional experience in a related field
• Passion for social justice and commitment to growing in anti-racist and anti-oppressive work personally and professionally
• Adobe Creative Suite proficiency
• Demonstrated success with authentically serving historically marginalized communities
• Attends occasional evening and weekend meetings
• Access to reliable transportation daily for frequent travel throughout Denver
• Ability to lift and transport event supplies as needed

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations/marketing, digital media, video production or related field
• AP Style or similar writing standard mastery
• Familiar with Google Suite technologies

INTERVIEW EXPECTATIONS
