FORMAN POSITION SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of this position is to manage a gas/utility crew that is responsible for the installation, replacement and repair of gas services, public water, sewer, electric and storm water management systems. Crews typically consist of a Foreman and Equipment Operators, as well as skilled and unskilled Laborers/and or gas mechanics and gas laborers.

FOREMAN ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
-Plan, manage and evaluate work of crew as assigned
-Interpret plans/drawings and determine best course of action
-Ability to replace, repair and install gas main and services, steel and plastic
-Ability to disconnect and reconnect fuel lines and run required equipment
-Oversee the ordering and utilization of materials, determine quantities and schedule delivery
-Collaborate with other Divisions/Crews to ensure efficient installation and adherence to schedule
-Complete and submit daily work log including crew hours and job charge codes
-Document job progress and extra work needed for completion
-Responsible for safety and OSHA requirements on the job

FOREMAN COMPETENCIES & REQUIREMENTS:
-Ability to coordinate with other Divisions on multiple project phases
-Materials management skills
-MDE Erosion and Sediment Control Certification (MDE Green Card)
-Adult CPR and Standard First Aid Certification OSHA 10 Certification
-Supervisory skills
-Ability to verify specifications
-Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and procedures for utility crews
-Laser Alignment Skills
-Completion of Trenching and Confined Space safety course
-Qualified to use calibration of all equipment needed to perform necessary work in and around gaseous environment (e.g., GMI, calibrated test gauges)

FOREMAN PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Eight years excavating, utility or other applicable experience, four of which specifically in utilities

FOREMAN PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS: The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by the Utilities Foreman to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
-The ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction
-Able to pass respiratory fit test if working in an environment where required
-Able to pass all required utility OQ’s, certifications
-Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
-Performing this job requires hand eye coordination, and the ability to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
-Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
-While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock
-The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud
