Southern Financial Reporting is looking for an accountant with 3 years of experience. The position will provide accounting support for the monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements in the Southern Financial Reporting department. This department offers excellent career opportunities for the ideal candidate.

This position is located in Atlanta, Georgia, but open to other remote work locations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide assistance in preparing and analyzing Southern Company’s consolidated monthly preliminary earnings information.
• Provide assistance in preparing the monthly and quarterly actual vs. actual and actual vs. budget variance analysis reporting.
• Provide assistance in preparing and analyzing information for the quarterly Southern Company earnings release, earnings call, and in support of Investor Relations.
• Provide assistance in preparing the quarterly earnings 8-K.
• Provide assistance with Southern Financial Reporting’s SOX-related activities and ensure compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes Oxley Act.
• Provide audit support to both internal and external auditors as required.
• Serve as a Company Coordinator and assist in the preparation of the annual form 10-K and quarterly 10-Q filings.
• Provide assistance with the annual Conflict Minerals reporting efforts and help ensure due diligence is performed for Form SD filing requirements.
• Participate and assist with special project activities including, but not limited to, Southern Financial Reporting’s Business Assurance Plan, Accounting Research, Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Reporting, XBRL tagging for SEC filings, and other ad hoc requests from management, subsidiary companies or other departments as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
• CPA or CPA candidate desired

Experience Requirements

• 3 years of accounting experience in one or more of the following areas: public accounting, financial accounting, regulatory accounting, finance, internal controls, or auditing is required
• Experience with Wdesk, Oracle Cloud, Excel, and Word are desired

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, related rules, and regulations
• Knowledge of Securities and Exchange Commission rules and reporting requirements
• Knowledge of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission accounts
• Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance requirements
• Understanding of accounting, specifically utility accounting, and ratemaking principles
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to details
• Ability to interface effectively with accounting personnel at Southern Company’s subsidiaries, SCS Financial Planning, and others across the Southern system.
• Works well with others.
• Ability to support multiple assignments simultaneously under tight deadlines. Works well under stress.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
