Potomac Testing (a TechPro Power Group Company) Looking for ELECTRICAL POWER SYSTEMS ENGINEER at Crofton, MD Full Time

We are currently seeking a Power Systems Engineer.  The primary function of the Power Systems Engineer is to produce power system analysis utilizing commercially available software.  The Power System Engineer will utilize single line drawings or gathered field notes to develop an electrical model of the power system.  After completion of the analysis Power Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing the report and present findings to a wide arrange of customers.  We provide engineering analysis for governmental, healthcare, commercial, and manufacturing clients.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Utilize SKM Power Tools to perform Short Circuit, Coordination, and Arc Flash Studies

• Prepare Engineering Reports for delivery with results of Short Circuit, Coordination and Arc Flash Studies.

• Present findings to end users of system for recommended changes and upgrades to system to correct deficiencies, increase safety, or increase system efficiency

• Utilize CAD to produce power system drawings from output of power system software

• Assist Project Managers with Engineering questions as they arise

• Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.  Some lifting (up to 25 lbs. may be required)

• The ability to climb ladders and stairs is required

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Proficient in AutoCAD
• Written and oral communication skills
• Ability to provide self-study for engineering topics while working under senior engineers
• Candidate must have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
• Candidate must be able to pass a drug test and background investigation

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

• PE License and/ or Engineer-in-Training certification
• Prior use of Power Systems Analysis Software such as SKM Powertools, ETap, Easy Power or others
• Familiarity with the National Electric code and various industry standards such as NETA, OSHA, NFPA 70E and IEEE
• Knowledgeable of the ratings of equipment and the type of calculations required for evaluation
• Knowledgeable of system protection practices and the types of components used for low voltage and high voltage system protection
