Pine Tree Staffing, LLC Looking for Packaging Engineer at Jasper, TN Full Time

Top manufacturing company located in greater Chattanooga, TN area is looking for a Packaging Engineer for their team. This is a new, modern and clean facility. This role is focused on the shipment of products (crating, and packaging) as well as Operational Excellence (Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma, etc).

Essential Duties:

• Oversee and manage the complete packaging development process, including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing.

• Troubleshoot new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials and processes and provide creative, timely, and cost-effective solutions.

• Analyze engineering drawings and product specifications to determine item’s physical characteristics, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.

• Establish standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation. Evaluate and select packaging suppliers/vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews.

• Work closely with suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing.

• Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.

• Work closely with Engineering to optimize packaging supply base for cost, lead time, quality, regionalization, standardization, supply assurance, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements.

• Work with the crate manufacturing department to ensure that the packaging designs are optimized for manufacturability.

• Develop and implement comprehensive test plans to ensure that packaging exceeds customer specifications.

• Demonstrated ability to safely manage consultant engineering firms as well as mechanical and electrical installation contractors in a factory environment.

• Strong knowledge in a large variety of materials (aluminum, steel, composites, foam, etc.)

• Working knowledge of CAD, and technical drawings, including datum structure, GD&T and tolerance stack up analysis

• Familiarity with manufacturing processes including machining, welding, fabrication, and injection molding etc.

• Experience with designing to standards such as ASTM, Mil-Spec, etc.

• Capable of managing multiple priorities at once without sacrificing quality of results

• Proficient at-risk management and communication

Required Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Packaging, or equivalent work experience with evidence of exceptional ability

• 5+ years’ experience in a comparable technical position – related heavy duty industry preferably

• Proven deep understanding of engineering principles – knowledge of engineering disciplines: Process, Packaging, Electrical/Controls, Construction, Utilities

• Prior knowledge and experience in fabrication

• No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers.

• Good reasoning ability is required to solve a wide range of business problems. Able to apply algebra, linear equations, and other analytics as required. Able to understand and utilize management reports and plans to conduct business.
