Responsibilities • Highway Maintenance (40%): Filling cracks, sealing chips, mowing ditches, painting stripes, installing and repairing road sign, picking up debris, repairing beam guards/cable guards, ditching, repairing gravel shoulders, removing/cutting trees, and maintaining/repairing concrete and asphalt roads and bridges.
• Highway Construction (30%): Operating asphalt plant, asphalt road paving, operating gravel pit with crushing equipment, replacing culverts, and planning/parking projects (masonry, carpentry, and excavation/grading).
• Snow/Ice Control (15%): Operating snowplow/salters, plow controllers, salt brine making/hauling, and installing/removing snow fences.
• Machine Maintenance (10%): Performing simple, mechanical maintenance activities on Highway Department equipment, including tri-axle trucks, 5-yard trucks, loaders, backhoes, rollers, mowers, and skid steers, and ensuring clean and proper operations.
• Maintaining Individual Shops (5%): Cleaning lunchroom/bathrooms and performing grounds maintenance.
Requirements • High school degree and multiple years of construction and/or skilled labor abilities.
• Good communication skills.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) w/ A, B, C, & N Endorsements.
• MSHA certifications.
• Must pass pre-employment physical, drug test, and background check.
