About the Role:
The Tax Accountant supports the Tax Department in all areas of tax compliance and GAAP tax accounting. Responsibilities may include property tax, local licensing, and unclaimed property compliance, sales tax compliance assistance, payroll tax registrations, completion of supporting schedules for federal and state income tax returns and preparation of those returns for filing, and basic tax research in all tax areas.
While we have a fantastic headquarters office located in Midtown Atlanta, Oxford’s corporate team operates with “remote first” and this position is considered a remote role with occasional travel to the office.
What you will do:
Perform the following in support of the compliance process for all domestic locations:
Gather all data required for return preparation.
Identify new locations and document compliance requirements.
Analyze new store buildouts to determine reportable/non-reportable assets.
Prepare returns using property tax compliance software.
Submit final approved returns to appropriate jurisdictions.
Maintain projected tax database for accounting purposes based on expected assessed value, and investigation of discrepancies between actual and expected assessed values.
Monitor payment due date schedule to assure timely receipt and payment of bills.
Maintain calendar and process all domestic renewals on a timely basis
Prepare franchise, gross receipts, occupancy, and other returns.
Maintain schedules tracking research and resolution of potential unclaimed property items, handle due diligence requirements and prepare annual state returns of unclaimed property.
Support the monthly compliance process by preparing reconciliations and return workpapers for non-complex entities.
Gather supporting information for audits.
Reconcile and analyze fixed assets for appropriate treatment for calculations, tax depreciation, and tax reporting.
Determine annual system changes required to calculate bonus depreciation and work with IT to implement.
Maintain schedules summarizing monthly activity for this private foundation for use in preparing Form 990.
Analyze general ledger data and other information necessary for identification and calculation of book-tax differences.
Calculate and maintain supporting schedules for book-tax differences, and other federal and state tax supporting schedules.
Enter data into a consolidated income tax provision file on a quarterly and annual basis and review resulting calculations for accuracy. Prepare necessary journal entries to record income tax accounting adjustments to financial statement presentation in compliance with GAAP.
Assist with organizing and finalizing financial data and tax adjustments for the completion of the consolidated federal return and all state returns, including final adjustments to book-tax differences calculated for provision, analysis of data for state tax apportionment and other state-specific adjustments. Utilize income tax compliance software to produce final returns.
Calculate quarterly estimated federal and state payments.
Research basic federal and state issues for all tax types.
Maintain and update tax rate schedules and prepare registrations for new locations
