North Texas Food Bank Looking for Sr. Director, Philanthropy at Dallas, TX Full Time

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Sr. Director, Philanthropy is responsible for leading the philanthropy team to meet or exceed annual fundraising goals. This includes leadership of major gift, mid-level, recurring and direct response programs. This individual will also manage a select portfolio of key donor relationships.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, marketing, public relations, business or related discipline

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts
• Strategic and critical thinker with the ability to think holistically
• Demonstrated success in soliciting grants for health and human service-related organization(s)
• Flexibility and experience in building a major giving program and team
• Understanding of the actions required to build and manage a prospect pipeline
• Demonstrated ability to establish, maintain and strengthen relationships with donors on behalf of an institution, and an understanding of the record-keeping and stewardship systems that support a successful donor relations program
• Ability to take initiative and utilize innovative techniques and ingenuity to create solutions and strategies
• Ability to organize and prioritize fundraising activities effectively and to guide staff members in managing their responsibilities

Experience:

• Seven years in donor management
• Five years of managing, motivating, and training fundraising teams

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Create and execute department strategy and annual plan, regularly evaluating progress to goal, and making adjustments as needed
• Oversee and support gift officers’ fundraising plans and efforts monitoring progress via metrics, the pipeline and income reports
• Oversee Donor Strategy team responsible for high value donor segment management, annual campaign giving and prospect research management
• Collaborate with peers on the External Affairs team to develop synergistic strategies to optimize and develop relationships for the Food Bank
• Work closely with volunteer committees and councils to expand relationships and contributions to NTFB
• Collaborate with Programs staff to understand projects in need of funding
• Work with team on special donor events, including, but not limited to, major donor events, special marketing events and other donor-specific events
• Implement departmental initiatives and special projects for operational improvements
• Stay abreast of philanthropic, economic, and social and community trends related to the Food Bank
• Participate in Dallas Chamber and related civic associations to ensure that the staff is informed of changes in trends and initiatives that might impact the organization
• Lead, mentor, and develop staff to ensure continuous learning and growth as well as cross-collaboration with departments
• Promote a collaborative environment where teamwork, creativity and open communication is consistently achieved
• Perform other tasks and duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead a team of approximately 11 people with 8 direct reports

MENTAL DEMANDS:

• The person in this position needs to adapt well in the face of workplace stressors, such as customer service complaints, compliance offenses, and competing priorities of reasonable or high significance to the successful function of the unit.
• Must be able to effectively interpret data and make critical decisions that will have a significant impact on the team and organization.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

• Moderate noise (i.e. business office with open floor plan with computers, phone, printers, and light traffic)
• Ability and willingness to participate in events outside the traditional workday schedule on occasional evenings and weekends
