Oriden, headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, is a renewable energy developer focused on developing both off-site utility-scale and on-site distributed generation solar PV and energy storage projects. The services we provide include project origination and site control, feasibility assessment, grid interconnection, design and engineering, resource assessment, community relations, environmental & technical studies, siting and permitting, PPA origination, equipment procurement, project financing, construction management, ownership and asset management of renewable energy projects. The team is venture funded by Mitsubishi Power Ltd., a Japanese multinational with operations globally and regional headquarters in Lake Mary, FL. Our solutions meet the clean energy needs for load serving entities, electric cooperatives, corporate end users, community solar customers, behind-the-meter commercial & industrial customers, and distribution level front-of-the-meter customers.

We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of Sr. Solar Engineer. The Sr. Solar Engineer will provide design and engineering services for utility scale solar PV projects. These services include designing and drafting solar plant layouts, energy performance modeling, site inspections, major equipment procurement support, construction drawing reviews, and installation support.

A prospective candidate must have a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university and at least 5 years of relevant engineering and project execution experience in the utility scale solar PV industry.

This position will report to the Manager of Engineering.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Design utility scale solar PV systems including civil, structural, and electrical aspects utilizing AutoCAD and PVsyst software, among other design tools
• Oversee engineering responsibilities through the execution and construction of projects
• Conduct solar resource meteorological data assessments for project sites
• Create energy production models for solar PV projects
• Work closely with interconnection engineers to create electrical line diagrams, conduct electrical design studies, and formulate other electrical calculations
• Coordinate multidisciplinary team of external third-party engineers, including civil, geotechnical, structural, and electrical, and equipment manufacturers to provide construction-ready plans and details for installations
• Design of solar module mounting structures for fixed tilt and tracker racking systems.
• Develop and manage relationships with a network of vendors and engineering consultants for the entire life cycle of a project including development, permitting, construction, and asset management phases with engineering oversight.
• Provide engineering and technical support of solar PV projects to Oriden’s commercial origination, development, construction and finance functions through the entire life cycle
• Perform site visits for project assessment and feasibility.
• Build and maintain tools for energy modeling, system design, cost estimating, product evaluation, and more.
• Support utility interconnection and permitting application processes.
• Support training of engineering department personnel.

• Support development of design drawing libraries.
• Additional duties as assigned and/or directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from a four-year college in Mechanical, Civil, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five years of experience in an engineering role in the PV industry in design, project execution, and construction of utility scale solar PV projects
• NABCEP PV Installation Professional Certification preferred
• Strong knowledge of industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code, International Building Code, International Fire Code and other standards relevant to the industry.
• Adept at selecting and sizing equipment for different circumstances. Knowledge of modules, combiner boxes, disconnects, wiring, and inverter technologies and sizing, and which function best in different situations
• Knowledge of medium voltage distribution and protection systems preferred.
• Familiarity with interconnection, structural engineering, racking, and balance of systems
• High proficiency in AutoCAD preferred
• Mastery of PVSyst energy modeling software required
• Microsoft Office software proficiency
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
• Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks.
