MaxMind (www.maxmind.com) is looking for a talented Strategic Controller to join our team. We help protect thousands of companies worldwide from fraud, screening over a billion online transactions each year, and we provide IP intelligence data to thousands more. In this role, you will help oversee our finances and related processes and controls. You’ll also provide strategic advice to the executive team.

Position overview
As a Strategic Controller, you will be hands-on with a wide range of financial activities while also providing strategic advice to the executive team. You’ll help us do revenue recognition, ensure sales tax compliance in a variety of states and countries, and review tax filings, among a variety of other tasks.
In general, you will be expected to:
Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points. We keep books on both cash and accrual bases.
Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic landscape
Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines
Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective action
Help develop and support short and long-term operational strategies
Manage relationships and projects with outside accounting firms
Identify appropriate vendors for financial operations and manage those relationships
Your work will be supported by an accounts receivable and payable specialist and part-time bookkeeper who you will help manage. The operations team will also provide assistance.

Key responsibilities include
Managing and monitoring all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP standards, regulatory requirements, and contractual requirements
Maintaining internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs, team and organizational budgets, and actual expenditures
In conjunction with the CEO and COO, establishing financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards
Implementing consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs
Upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation (including especially sales tax and VAT)
Developing and enforcing internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow
Overseeing and supporting the accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity
Helping administer sales commission plan
Minimum Qualifications
Working knowledge of finance law and regulatory standards (GAAP)
Strong understanding of economic and banking processes
Experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager
Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis
Proven payroll experience, with a focus on streamlining accounting processes
Exemplary history of financial project management
Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
