The Leonardo DRS Land Electronics business provides C4I Network computing and integrated situational awareness, as well as state-of-the-art embedded diagnostics, vehicle power management and combat vehicle integration products and services.
As a Component Engineer, you will be part of the hardware engineering support team with various assignments to project teams across multiple sites in support of COTS (commercial off the shelf) components, obsolescence, and other component engineering tasks. The position could be in Huntsville, AL or Melbourne, FL and will support products in Huntsville, Al, Melbourne, FL, Dallas, TX, and potentially other sites. Component Engineering is integral to our product design, manufacturing, and field support activities. Many of the products DRS’ designs and supports are rugged military electronics, and DRS has been supporting many of these products for decades
* Responsible for technical activity and completion of component engineering task(s) on time and budget
* Electrical engineering background with a good understanding of mechanical COTS parts as well
* Will use obsolescence engineering tools such as Silicon Expert or other design / analysis software in the performance of assignments such as obsolescence studies and reports
* Familiarity with and daily use of PLM (product lifecycle management) and ERP (enterprise resource planning) systems as pertains to component engineering tasks
* Solid understanding of Microsoft tools including mid-advanced use of Excel daily
* Knowledge of component obsolescence, mitigation, and procurement (vendors, distributors, brokers, etc.)
* Communicate clearly and work with various personnel across the company on a regular basis, including engineers, data management staff, manufacturing and operations, procurement, and others
* Must be comfortable with a dynamic environment where focus and plans can change quickly
* May participate in preparation of less-complex proposals pertaining to component engineering tasks
* May provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
* Will be involved with the release of drawings and other critical documentation-must be thorough and detail oriented
* Expected to report on progress and status regularly
* Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values, and culture of the organization
