Position Overview: The Registered Mental Health Counselor or Licensed Mental Health Counselor shall provide office-based crisis counseling and evidence-based trauma therapy to child victims of trauma, abuse, and/or neglect. This professional shall assist with recommendations for community services, medical, psychiatric, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, speech and language, psychological testing and neurological testing. Salary offered is contingent on experience and qualifications of candidate.
Skills Required: This position requires sound assessment, treatment planning and documentation skills. The ability to develop rapport and trust relationships with children and adolescents is essential. The capacity to function as a team player with fellow Children’s Advocacy Center staff and community partners is an absolute necessity. The position requires a thorough understanding of child trauma, a working knowledge of clinical techniques (particularly Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) that effectively address trauma issues, and the facility to implement such techniques.
Education Required: This position requires completion of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Clinical Counseling, Psychology or related field. Training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is preferred.
Experience Required: This professional must be a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida or Registered in the State of Florida as a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. The position requires satisfactory completion of a supervised internship consistent with the academic requirements of the degree-granting program. At least one year of post-degree professional counseling experience is preferred for the position.
