This position accurately obtains personal and financial information to admit/register patients to the hospital’s various clinical departments or inpatient care. Responsible for collecting required deposits at time of service in compliance to EMTALA regulations. Position answers PBX for rollover calls and after-hours including weekends. Position performs any clerical duties as required. Position ensures that the patient information is collected for admission into computer database and that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures. Distributes appropriate information to ancillary departments.

Performs clerical duties as required. Performs related duties such as pre-certifications, insurance verification, and collection of patient pay portions. Performs patient transfers, and updating computer records. Responsible for the verification of insurance when tools are available. Provides information to the patient/representative about billing, complaint process, patient rights, HIPAA and visiting hours. Communicates appropriately to supervisor, nurse managers, coworkers and physicians. Responsible for knowing hospital policies and being familiar with hospital services that are available. Refers patient to the Business Office when financial arrangements need to be made. Interacts professionally with patient/family and provides explanations and verbal reassurance as necessary.
Minimum education
High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred
Required Skills
One year of related experience or other clerical experience in a hospital or medical office department preferred
