Controller – Philadelphia, PA (Remote)

Houwzer is looking for a Controller to join our team! Reporting to our CFO, you know your accounting principles and the full accounting process end to end. You’ll advise on financial reports required by governmental regulations, and review, analyze, and interpret financial and budgetary reports. Every day is a new challenge, and you’re continually looking for ways to help our team become more efficient and effective. You will have two direct reports to support the day-to-day accounting operations.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

• Oversee all aspects of financial accounting for the Company, including financial procedures and controls, financial period close, and financial statement preparation and analysis.
• Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
• Provide leadership and vision for scaling and improving our financial infrastructure and our accounting team.
• Interpretation, review, and implementation of existing and new accounting pronouncements to ensure compliance with US GAAP as well as ascertaining and developing appropriate disclosures in the Company’s audited financial statements.
• Lead a best-in-class, timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process for all accounting areas and all associated activities.
• Monitor all financial accounts and flag fraudulent charges.
• Develop and mentor the accounting team with a focus on advance communication, high transparency, minimizing surprises, and effective partnership with leaders cross-functionally.
• Assist the CFO in the annual budget process.
• Achieve budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
• Provide status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
• Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Keep financial information and plans confidential.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
• Act as primary liaison with the company’s external auditors and other external service providers.
• Oversight of bi-weekly payroll process, including responses to payroll tax notices.

To Get in the Door, You Need to Have:

• 3-5 years of experience as a Controller
• Minimum BS in Accounting, CPA license preferred
• Experience managing a small team
• Experience in residential real estate is a plus
• Experience with NetSuite
• Advanced expertise in using the Google Suite
• Knowledge of payroll and bookkeeping systems
• Ability to work under pressure and solve problems independently
• Great interpersonal skills that align with our mission and values
• Strong attention to detail
• Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills including written, verbal, and presentation
