Holywater is a bar from the brothers behind Crew; the culmination of many years of drinking and eating and finding their way in and out of trouble, first in New Orleans (their hometown) and later in New York (their adopted home).

It’s subterranean and moody, and put it together with artifacts collected over the years. There’s a hammerhead shark above the bar; the kitchen table they shared as kids; artworks by friends and family; vintage photographs of boats they’ve restored and the crews who sailed them; Windsor captain chairs; their grandmother’s lamps; a few Spuds MacKenzie relics; and the transom of the 1932 prize schooner Brilliant.

The menu is concise, and everything on it is what you want. It leans on classic and forgotten cocktails, wines you can feel good about, easy-drinking beers, oysters and fruits de mer, an exceptional bistro burger, and gumbo on Monday nights.
