Our office is looking for an experienced Medical Precertification specialist to support a very active Pain Management Practice. Candidate must have a positive attitude and excellent communication skills and customer service is a must! The individual will work directly with the clinical staff members and the insurance companies to properly obtain authorizations and verify benefits. The Precertification/Authorization Specialist is responsible for verifying patient information, insurance coverage, and financial responsibility prior to procedures/surgery. Duties will require that you notify patient of copay responsibility, coinsurances, deductible amounts due from the patient for procedures. Duties also include communicating with patients, schedulers, and insurance carriers. This is a customer service position, therefore strong communication and people skills are essential.
Medical Office: 1-2 years experience in healthcare insurance billing, verification, collections and/or authorizations.
Knowledge of computers, programs and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
Knowledge of insurance plans, EMR systems, and front office functions preferred.
Knowledge of Medical Terminology
Verify insurances by calling and obtaining benefits.
Giving patients courtesy calls for any balances due.
Verify medical benefits including co-pay, deductible and co-insurance amounts for scheduled patients.
Communicate with Clinic Schedulers and Front Office on patient balances.
Properly documenting benefits in the patient charts.
Perform other responsibilities as may be called on by the Physicians or Practice Manager.
Skill in operating a computer and scanner, as well as software programs.
Telephone etiquette and professional communication skills are required.
