OVERVIEW
The General Mills Milwaukee Plant manufactures and distributes snacks for the North American Retail and C&F Business segments. The site’s product portfolio includes Chex Mix, Muddy Buddies, Bugles, and Gardetto’s. Located 6miles south of downtown Milwaukee, the site was built in 1968 and owned by the Gardetto family until it was acquired by General Mills in 1999.
The Controls Engineer II is responsible for providing technical support for the site in with respect to electrical and controls. This role serves to improve the safety and reliability of the site through tactical support and capital project execution support. The candidate will function as a controls technology expert for the plant, specifically focused on processing systems. This position requires availability for calls after hours for emergency situations.
This role reports to the Plant Technical Manager.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Human and Food Safety
- Understand and provide expertise for human and food safety systems as they apply to control & electrical systems
- Ensure existing and new equipment and infrastructure meets applicable electrical codes
Technical Knowledge
- Drive productivity through a strategic use of technology from feasibility to completion
Provide tactical and strategic operations support to reduce/eliminate issues associated with equipment, performance, quality, and safety - Manage electrical and controls architecture, including conformance to General Mills standards
- Support and/or lead electrical and controls capital projects
- Manage & develop the controls strategy for maintenance improvement
Technical Leadership
- Manage relationships with collaborators: plant cross-functional teams, contractors, integrators, corporate engineering resources
- Interface with corporate personnel, engineers, vendors and production personnel to effectively develop and implement system design improvements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related degree with applicable experience or extensive relevant work experience
- 2 years of manufacturing experience
- Proven organization and planning skills (strategic perspective)
- Understanding of practical electrical circuits and schematics on a plant floor
- Experience with AB PLC platforms (programming, configuring, troubleshooting etc.)
- Ability to read and update electrical and control schematics
- Ability to read Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
- Ability to design and troubleshoot a range of electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting and complex problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communications and listening skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Strong attention to detail
- Self-starter and self-motivated and willingness to learn
- Strong training skills, ability to adjust teaching style to different needs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of experience in troubleshooting industrial electrical instrumentation and controls
- Allen Bradley PLC programming and hardware troubleshooting
- Understanding of network architecture
- Network communication technologies and topologies (Ethernet, etc.)
- Control system project implementation experience
- Wonderware InTouch and System Platform experience
- Allen Bradley Servo Controllers, Control Logix, Panelviews, and RSLinx experience
- Aerial, Remote IO, Ethernet, ControlNet, and DeviceNet communications experience
- Common field devices/instruments – VFD’s, Load Cells, Control Valves, Level, Pressure, Temperature, Flow, and Position sensors
- Ability to design and troubleshoot a range of electrical and instrumentation systems. Experience calibrating and interfacing with analog transmitters, VFD’s, load cell systems, etc.
