This engineering position is within the Florida Distribution Control Center (DCC) organization. The DCC provides 24/7/365, safe, centralized dispatch of work to field employees and approves the operation of equipment for the 35 counties in the Duke Energy-Florida service territory.Grid Engineers support the operations performed on the company’s distribution system.This group of Engineer’s support for work that is accountable for a 24-hour, seven day a week (on-site and on-call) operation. A background in engineering and operations is valuable to success in this role. Grid Engineers benefit from experience in distribution system operations, technology systems integration, and knowledge of customer information systems, SCADA, outage management systems, and related systems, as well as writing and specifying the technical requirements for processes and procedures.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of routine problems in area of expertise.
Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.
Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches associated with the resolution of routine technical problems.
Conducts basic engineering studies requiring little evaluation or ingenuity.
Possesses knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
Supports the company’s goals and represents the company positively and professionally.

Basic/Required Qualifications:
Engineer I
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
A Master’s degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. Engineering degree.
Engineer II
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
A Master’s degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. Engineering degree.
Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience in addition to Degree
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
Understanding of basic principles of project management.
Experience in the utility industry.
Working Conditions
This position will be located primarily in an office environment. Travel to various locations (including the field and other facilities) is anticipated and will vary.
Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the posted Duke Energy facility.
