Job Overview
The Chassis Engineering Team is responsible for current product engineering, new product specifications and development of heavy truck chassis systems. Each day brings opportunities to create novel technical solutions to interesting and challenging problems. The successful candidate for this position will be a skilled communicator, a consensus builder, a problem solver, an effective multitasker and a reliable source for technical ingenuity and creativity.
Responsibilities:
Provide leadership in the design and development of best in class suspension systems that are safe, reliable, serviceable, and competitive
Provide a broad emphasis on continuous improvement and challenge others to meet top performance potential
Work cross-functionally, interdepartmentally, and globally to collect and execute design and project requirements. Interface with product strategy and validation engineering to understand customer needs and system performance
Act as a consensus builder to bring the various stakeholders on board at project start up and keep them there throughout the project life cycle
Provide creative, cost effective, and technically feasible solutions for problems encountered during the development, validation, production tryout, and post changeover project phases
Manage multiple assignments concurrently, and prioritize them in a manner consistent with business goals
Successfully implement projects on time and within budget. Proactively inform management of project issues, delays and risks; effectively champion strategic goals both internally and externally, using established visual management tools
Improve competitive market position by keeping abreast of state of the art developments in the trucking industry, competitor landscape, and applying the new knowledge to designs
Generate and implement ideas for continuous improvement of the work environment, systems, tools, processes, product cost, reliability, and quality.
Use CAD and other design tools to create and maintain 3D part designs, detailed 2D part and assembly drawings, GD&T, packaging studies, and installation diagrams. Develop, release, and maintain accurate Engineering documentation.
Provide technical mentorship to new engineers. Actively contribute to a positive and supportive culture within engineering.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline, 2 years of experience, and 1 year of group lead, project lead or mentoring experience is required.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Experience leading projects
Experience applying relevant mechanical engineering concepts and tools
Teaching others relevant engineering concepts and tools
Leading and mentoring others in identifying/solving the root cause of complex problems
Leading implementation of cross-functional improvement initiatives
Preparing and giving presentations to small or large groups
Understanding of engineering and upstream and downstream processes
Demonstrated CAD expertise is required, using Siemens NX
Demonstrated strong verbal, written, and presentation skills
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Experience as technical representative in medium to large scale design program
Experience with DTNA systems
Experience with resolving reliability issues
Expert problem solving resolution skills (Shainin RedX, Six Sigma, 8D or similar)
Demonstrated experience developing creative design solutions for truck systems
Experience designing metal parts in multiple processes (e.g. press brake sheet metal, stampings, castings, extrusions, etc.)
Knowledge of vehicle assembly plant process
