CMC Rescue Inc Looking for Staff Accountant at Goleta, CA Full Time

SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Controller, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for helping the accounting team close the books on a monthly basis and ensuring timely and accurate data is reported in the financial results for the company. In addition, this individual will be involved in ad hoc projects and process improvement initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform month end closing activities and reconciliations for various accounts/processes. Areas of focus may include but are not limited to: Cash, investments, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intangibles, accrued liabilities, sales tax payable, customer deposits, long term debt, and T&E expense allocations
• Prepare journal entries and reconcile account balances, ensuring to maintain accurate supporting records and documentation
• Manage the collection of delinquent accounts in accordance with collections procedures, including resolving billing issues and contacting customers by email and phone
• Administer credit limits for current customers with payment terms and grant/deny credit for new customers through analyzing credit data to determine risk involved in extending credit
• Review and process bi-weekly payroll and record related journal entries
• Manage Capital Assets including processing monthly depreciation expense, recording new and disposed assets, and preparing/filing annual Business Property Statement with the County
• Crossed-trained to perform Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable duties when needed
• Propose and implement process improvements that are designed to streamline accounting processes
• Assist with ad hoc projects across all aspects of the accounting function

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

• Communicate effectively and professionally with customers, vendors and other departments within the organization
• Ability to read and interpret general business forms and government documents
• Excellent mathematical, problem solving and analytical skills
• Experience with a manufacturing environment and inventory a plus

• Advanced Excel knowledge: Creator level expertise, as outlined in ICAEW’s Spreadsheet Competency Framework; experience with pivot tables and v-lookups are necessary

• Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts receivable/accounts payable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and corporate procedures
• Demonstrate the ability to be self-driven, self-starter, goal oriented, and someone who can work independently to identify process improvements and implement solutions, with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness

QUALIFICATIONS

• A degree in accounting or related field preferred
• 3+ years of relevant accounting experience
• Payroll experience is a plus
• Experience working in an ERP system preferred

Working conditions are in a normal office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit and stand; using the hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel. The employee must occasionally exert or lift up to twenty pounds. Successful performance requires good eyesight with or without corrective lens. Requires long periods of time working at a computer and includes phone work.
