City of West Allis looking for Assistant City Attorney at West Allis, WI  Full Time

You could be the next West Allis Assistant City Attorney. We’re looking for a litigator who is passionate about public service and holds the highest ethical standards. One spot on our small team has opened only due to retirement. Here is what you can expect as the Assistant City Attorney:

• City Prosecutor – Working for the second-largest city in Milwaukee County, this person would handle a wider variety of cases than any other city prosecutor in the state. West Allis municipal court handles a high volume of cases because it takes on normal traffic and ordinance matters but also processes many matters that would be charged criminally in other counties. This person would try about 100 cases per year in municipal court as well as any appeals to circuit court.
• General Litigator – The Assistant City Attorney handles all small claims cases which could involve acting on behalf of the plaintiff or defense on collections, housing, and other matters. Additionally, this person would handle requests for the return of seized property, injunction hearings, and a variety of other circuit court matters, gaining court experience and honing their skills as a lawyer.
• Other Duties as Assigned – In a small office like ours, this is a big part of the job! We need a lawyer who is not afraid to tackle different areas of the law and seeks out new work opportunities. We have a true team atmosphere because we handle almost all matters in-house. There are even occasional needs for non-legal work. The goal is to help the City out in any way you can, so bring your talents – we’ll find a use for them! This position is perfect for somebody who not only switches gears easily but thrives in an environment where you don’t know exactly what the day will hold.
