We are hiring one elementary teacher to teach first grade. Calvary Christian School is a Ministry of Calvary Baptist Church of Hollister, California. Only teachers who demonstrate a devotion to the Christian faith and a desire and willingness to be an active member of Calvary Baptist Church will be considered. Teachers are expected to be a positive Christian example to the students in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity (I Timothy 4:12).
Below is a more formal description of the job duties of an elementary teacher:
JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction of the school principal, the teacher will independently instruct pupils in an elementary classroom in spiritual, academic, behavioral, and social areas. The teacher will plan, develop, organize, and conduct a comprehensive education program for his or her pupils. The teacher will seek to be an example to the students of a Christian who loves God and others and desires to help the students do the same.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
SPIRITUAL
· Models a positive Christian testimony in word and conduct both in and out of the classroom.
· Meets the student’s spiritual needs by teaching the nature of God and man, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ, and discipling Christians in their faith.
· Incorporates the teaching of a Biblical worldview into the curriculum.
ACADEMIC
· Provides learning experiences and instruction in Bible, reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, and physical education.
· Utilizes a course of study, program guides, and a variety of other materials that have been adopted by the school for the purpose of developing lesson plans and classroom instruction.
· Utilizes a variety of methodology in teaching and instructing pupils, including subject matter instruction, demonstration, lecture, and activity participation.
· Utilizes a variety of educational equipment, materials, books, and learning aids.
· Designs lessons that are appropriate to a wide range of cognitive, physical, emotional, and spiritual developmental/instructional levels of pupils.
· Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the history, background, and assessment of pupils in designing an educational program to meet specific individual educational needs.
· Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates academic, spiritual, and social growth.
· Prepares, administers, scores, and records the results of a variety of assessment tools in evaluating pupil progress.
· Plans, creates, and maintains an effective learning environment through the utilization of functional and aesthetically attractive displays, exhibits, and/or bulletin boards.
· Selects and requisitions appropriate educational supplies, materials, books, equipment, and learning aids.
· Establishes and maintains a suitable room environment through the proper control of heating, lighting, and ventilation.
· Establishes and maintains appropriate standards of student behavior utilizing a variety of behavior management strategies and techniques including behavior modification and positive reinforcement.
· Seeks to communicate care, kindness, and concern for a child’s well-being when administering discipline.
· Seeks to regularly communicate with parents as to the child’s progress and development.
· Assists, as needed, in other reasonable requirements that normally relate to a teaching position such as yard duty, conducting field trips, or assisting in extracurricular activities outside the normal school day.

PERSONAL/SPIRITUAL
· Must be a born-again Christian
· Must be an active member of Calvary Baptist Church who desires to use his or her spiritual gifts
· Must demonstrate a servant’s heart
· Must demonstrate the people skills, communication skills, and temperament that are necessary to build relationships with students and parents
· Must agree without reservation to the doctrinal statement of Calvary Baptist Church
· Must agree to the Teacher’s Covenant (to be signed on an annual basis)
· Must agree to standards of conduct set forth in the Faculty/Staff Handbook
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
· Demonstration of professional competency through one of the following:
o Possession of an earned baccalaureate or higher degree in elementary or early childhood education and/or subject areas commonly taught in elementary education, instructional technology, or closely related fields.
o Possession of an earned baccalaureate degree in another area of study combined with evidence of teaching ability and a willingness to pursue a post-graduate degree in education.
o Possession of other background education and/or experience other than the above indicating qualification to teach at the kindergarten or grades 1 through 6 level.
· Preference may be given to those who have attended Christian colleges.
· Preference may be given to those with prior teaching experience.
KNOWLEDGE
· A Biblical worldview
· Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies pertaining to the instruction of elementary pupils
· Child growth and development principles and theories
· Educational, curricular, and instructional goals and objectives
· Behavior management: strategies, techniques, and methods
ABILITIES

CERTIFICATIONS/BACKGROUND CHECK
· Must be willing to undergo a criminal background check
· Must be willing to obtain certification in First Aid and CPR
