Responsibilities
Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse is accountable for the health status and health needs of their patients based upon interpretation of health data and preventative health practices in collaboration with the patients and the interdisciplinary healthcare team members. The PACU nurse is responsible for assessing the patient’s vital signs, pain, the site of incision, temperature, respiration and phase 1 recovery of the post-anesthesia acute care pediatric and adult patients.
Qualifications
Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Current Texas RN license
CPR certified from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
ACLS and BLS certified
PALS within 6-months of hire
Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Previous staff nursing experience required; Critical Care experience desired
Assess, plan, evaluates, documents total nursing process
Strong critical care thinking skills
Duties include changing of dressings, turning a patient, breathing exercises and pain management
Thorough knowledge of pain medication and able to use his/her judgment of a patient’s pain
Organized, able to prioritize
Able to identify, analyze and implement effective problem solving techniques
Requires initiative, flexibility and the ability to stay calm in emergencies and a professional attitude
Self-motivated with exceptional follow-through skills
Computer skills necessary; EMR and Soarian documentation
Multi-task constantly and tolerate multiple interruptions
Personable, professional communication skills to communicate with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare members
Compassionate customer service skills
Committed to patient and family satisfaction
On-Call requirements are based on staffing / 30-minute response time.
