Under the direction of the Assistant Controller, the Accounting Manager is responsible for overall coordination of the Plan’s accounting function in compliance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting.
Key Functions/Responsibilities:
- Review account reconciliations and prepare adjusting journal entries as it relates to cash accounts, assigned product line revenue recognition and other assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Assists in managing the daily operations of certain functions within the department in collaboration with the Assistant Controller.
- Maintains Cash Reconciliation module on the accounting system
- Monitors and manages Asset Management module and responsible to generate monthly depreciation reports and complete entries
- Responsible for GAAP and Statutory investment accounting.
- Responsible for weekly check run Accounting Department processes associated with claim payments.
- Manages TPL check recoveries and Claim Refund Check Recoveries processes.
- Prepares monthly accrued expenses.
- Prepares and reviews documents for internal and external audits, quarterly and annual NAIC filings.
- Responsible for the hiring, orientation, and training, ongoing supervision and professional development of Staff Accountant and Accounting Clerk.
- Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
- Direct Supervision of two-three staff positions.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or the equivalent combination of training and experience
Experience:
- 5 Years of progressively responsible experience in Accounting
- Experience with automated general ledger, accounts payable and report writing systems.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills.
