OVERVIEW:
The Surveyor will be responsible for carrying out surveying duties on the job site through the use of highly specialized GPS grade control systems and other surveying tools. This individual will utilize laser levels to determine accurate measures of angular deviation, horizontal, vertical and slope distances, recording all survey data accurately to be used for site survey purposes. The Surveyor will further be responsible for performing on-site monitoring of construction activities to ensure work performed. The most important part of this role is double checking points and helping the foreman make sure quality is met.
Responsibilities
Utilize GPS and surveying equipment to determine measures of grades and positions on a job site, including the set-up of laser levels and slope lasers.
Determine through the use of laser levels, accurate measures of angular deviation, horizontal, vertical and slope distances.
Account for errors in surveying activities, ensure error measurements are included in readings and reports.
Process and verify the accuracy of survey data to ensure no variance exists between shot lines and cultural features.
Provide on-site troubleshooting of survey layout and machine control data to ensure all data and work performed is accurate and up to date.
Develop ongoing and effective communication with foreman and site workers to established lay out and grades as well as on-site survey interpretation.
Perform routine field monitoring in the form of grade checking of construction work activities to ensure accuracy with reference to the site plan.
Perform manual surveying tasks as necessary.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
3+ years of surveying experience.
Strong working knowledge of complex surveyor’s tools and experience with Civil 3D AutoCAD, Topcon, and Trimble GPS and total stations..
Adaptable to changing priorities and procedures.
Able to interact effectively with management and field staff.
Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee may require the ability to do the following:
Lift 50 lbs from ground and pull 50 lbs of force.
Perform ladder climbing, wire pulling and conduit pulling.
Fully squat, stoop or kneel while wearing a 25 lb tool belt.
Maintain a standing position for long periods of time while performing repetitive actions such as grasping or manipulating wires.
Work off of ladders, man lifts or reach booms
Working Environment:
While performing duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to:
A variety of weather conditions including cold, snow, rain, heat, etc.
High noise levels
