The Principal Process engineer is a member of the Central Process Technology organization, supporting all Americas processes. The role will be located in King of Prussia and reports to the Director of Process Engineering and Process Technology as part of corporate engineering and technology.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
Water Supply Technology – Americas Scope 40%
-Support plants improve their water supply treatment for processes, cooling towers, boilers and other industrial uses.
-Directly propose and assist with water supply improvement projects.
-Implement appropriate automation and remote monitoring for water supply and monitor outcome.
-Manage technical elements of water supply vendor support.
-Improve cooling tower cycles
-Reduce fouling and corrosion in cooling loops, optimize energy.
-Improve water supply HES elements, including chemical dosing and legionella elimination. -Reviewing water treatment vendor reports; assist plants with vendor interaction when needed
-Manage overall improvement program.
-Complete engineering studies and execute small projects.
-Improve energy and CO2 emissions in utilities scope.
-Provide support to waste water treatment as needed
-Participate in global water improvement team
Application of Engineering Tools 60%
-Improve and develop engineering tools such as simulation and calculation tools. Including but not limited to Aspen simulation, mixing simulation, piping simulation, dynamic simulation, and discrete simulation.
-Make complex simulations and calculations to support the business units and plants for normal operations.
-Support capital projects with simulation and calculations, participating in project teams.
-Use tools to support the organization improve energy and climate change
-Develop training plans and increase the overall Americas knowledge on methods and tools
Other Duties
As a member of the central process and technology group, complete general engineering duties as required. These may include, but not limited to:
-Process development and piloting
-PFD and material balance development
-PID development
-Equipment lists and specifications
-Process and safety device specification
-Participate in design reviews
-PHA and HAZOP
-Plant support
Context & Environment
Required Education/Qualification/Work Experience
* Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
* Higher degree candidates (MS ChE) as well as higher experience level candidates will be able to provide higher value in this role.
* Training or on the job experience in chemical plant utilities design and operation or an aptitude to develop further in this discipline.
* Technical skills in Aspen and other common process engineering tools.
* Additional certifications, such as lean six sigma are preferred.
* More than 14 years industrial experience in multiple process engineering/technology roles gaining theoretical and practical knowledge of engineering tools.
* Experience in supporting process safety activities at a site is preferred.
* Experience with membranes and emerging water treatment technologies is helpful, but not required.
