Role
We are seeking a UX Writer (UXW) to join our Product Experience (PX) team in an evolving, scale-up environment. In this role, you will use critical thinking and your in-depth understanding of the content development lifecycle to lead writing across Ring’s global packaging system product documentation; Turning technical topics into intuitive, efficient user manuals, quick starts, and safety labeling for new and sustaining products.
The UXW uses empathy, data, and insights to deliver frictionless, user-centered documentation to support an optimal out-of-box experience (OOBE); Collaborating with internal teams (Engineering, Product Management, Product Integrity, Insights, Neighbor Experience, User Research, Design) throughout the Product Development Process (PDP) to develop highly digestible, lean, and focused hardware setup and installation flows-helping users accomplish their goals during the learning lifecycle.
This is a virtual position requiring west coast hours with limited domestic travel for in-person events and workshops.
Key job responsibilities
* Coordinate with Product Management and Engineering to obtain hardware data and specifications to interpret and determine the simplest documentation to execute.
* Own UX writing product documentation workflow, presenting for review, and securing stakeholder buy-in and approval, actively pushing important work forward in the project lifecycle to maintain timelines and deadlines.
* Leverage instructional design principles, superior writing skills, and critical thinking to apply, maintain, and evangelize global and regional documentation language guidelines and best practices.
* Partner with illustrators to determine an optimal and complimentary content path for visuals.
* Use a combination of data analysis, user research, benchmarking, and audits to inform content decisions and improvements for an optimal customer experience, including accessibility and usability considerations.
* Communicate clearly and effectively to a wide range of audiences to explain complicated product and policy concepts in simple, jargon-free language.
* Participate in content management efforts, process development, and quality governance in support of team success.
* Help drive cohesive language and execution for international localization and across the global customer journey (package, app, site, help center).
* Create, organize, and archive soft copy files in Quip for continuous team accessibility.
* Listen to others, value opinions, and help team leaders to set documentation vision to meet high-impact business goals in a fast-moving environment.
A day in the life
You’ll use your technical thinking skills to lead writing for Ring’s in-box suite of educational product documentation for device setup and install; communicating closely with our product management and engineering teams to understand hardware functionality and pack-out to develop accurate, friendly content for millions of users. You’ll collaborate with illustrators to rapidly iterate, and use your impeccable attention to detail to call out risks, set expectations, and report on progress throughout the product development lifecycle. You’ll action off of beta testing, human factors audits, and CXFMEA reviews to implement real-time improvements-shipping a complete and polished finished product on-time.

* Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, a related field, or comparable professional experience.
* 6+ years as a UX or Technical Writer with a focus on mass-produced consumer products.
* Online portfolio with consumer-facing, UX-focused writing samples.
* Extensive experience creating end-user documentation for consumer-packaged goods, tech, electronics.
* Experience developing information architecture and templated content for complex documentation sets or product suites, including localization and accessibility best practices.
* Familiarity with user experience research principles and practices.
* Experience with content management systems and tools.
* Strong interest in aligned content, technology and customer education to help build and scale out new products.
* Able to deal with ambiguity, problem-solve independently, and manage a high volume of complex programs effectively.
* Experience shipping innovative, successful global consumer products in a highly-matrixed, agile environment.
* Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
* Experience working as part of a global team with remote colleagues.
* Experience continuously looking for improvements through customer-centric data and insights.
* Proactive with the ability to take ownership, stay organized, and prioritize to meet deadlines.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $70,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $173,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
