Engineer – Controls Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:

Allied Controls, L.L.C., is a systems integrator located in Union, Missouri.  We are looking for a Controls Engineer to join our team.  The Controls Engineer is responsible for the development and implementation of the electrical design, controls design, and programming requirements for projects. The Electrical Engineer coordinates with customers and machine builders to ensure an integrated design meets the project requirements.  Allied Controls programs machines and processes for multiple industries which provides for a challenging work environment.   Majority of our customers are within 1.5 hours of our office so minimal travel is required.  Typically work weeks are 40 to 45 hours.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design industrial control systems in AutoCAD Electrical (such as PLC, HMI, push button and relay controls) based on project design criteria and client requirements.
• Direct shop technicians during the control panel fabrication.
• Program PLC and HMIs to control systems to meet client’s needs.
• Provide support for client as required and directed by managers.
• Document conversations with clients where any design decision is made.
• Identify project change orders and share with management as project progresses.
• Perform necessary field work to obtain accurate information for the design and for program startup; travelling to project locations, duration dictated by project requirements and/or logistics.  
• Desired candidate must be motivated and capable of managing his/her own time to meet the integration needs of our customers. 
• Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• BS in Electrical or Electronics or Mechanical Engineering required.
• Familiarity with all electrical and control systems and applicable industry codes and standards.
• At least two semesters of programming classes required. Or 1 year of programming experience.  Ideal programming would include:
• • PLC Programming
  • HMI Programming and Data Collection
  • Visual Basic programming.
• Working knowledge of the NEC and other regulatory standards.
• Mechanical Design capabilities would be a plus:
• Basic knowledge or networking and networked systems.
• Ability and availability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability and availability to work overtime as needed based on projects; Typically our Engineers work 40 to 45 hours per week but on occasion projects require additional hours for startup and support of customers needs.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical information verbally and in writing to different audiences (electrical design staff, clients, etc.).
• Basic Microsoft Office skills with proficiency in Excel required.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 
Work is primarily conducted in a non-smoking office environment but also requires occasional travel to off-site work locations. 
Field duties may require indoor and outdoor work in a plant environment.
Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel.
Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery may include areas with extreme noise levels.
Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection.
May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes.
May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.  Typical out of town travel for Allied Engineers is less than 5% per year but could approach 10% on some years.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds.
Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits employee to communicate effectively.
