The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 65,000 pilots at 40 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Staff Accountant for our office in Tysons (McLean), Virginia. The Staff Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation, processing, analysis, and auditing of the Association’s U.S. and Canadian payroll transactions. They perform calculations of manual adjustments, including special pay runs; reconciliation of complex payroll processing situations; and, taxable-reimbursement processing for member volunteers. Duties also include the maintenance of established business procedures and internal controls for time and attendance processing, related interfacing with the accounting software system, and close liaison with key stakeholders, including Human Resources, to ensure effective sharing of key information and management of process interdependencies.
On an ongoing basis, they provide support related to payroll for the annual audits of ALPA National, 401(k), and Retiree Health Plans and reconcile all payroll and benefits data posted to general ledger accounts. They also provide support for third-party audits on Workers’ Compensation premiums and for preparing and filing required regulatory forms including monthly, quarterly, and annual filings with the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Department of Commerce, and various state agencies. Likewise, they prepare monthly payroll journal entries and quarterly 941 reconciliation schedules for interim audit fieldwork.Â
