Job Description

Assist the Manager of Purchasing in the selection and purchase of medical and surgical supplies and equipment.  Promote product standardization, competitive bidding and adherence to group purchasing agreements.  Work cooperatively with department managers in product selection and budgeting.  Take an active and supportive role in hospital value analysis and cost containment.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Assists in purchasing medical and surgical supplies and equipment for all departments
• Works cooperatively with department managers in the selection, pricing and purchase of appropriate supplies and equipment
• Works creatively to explore new cost effective sources for supplies and equipment
• Uses group purchasing contracts when possible
• Obtains supplies and equipment at the lowest overall cost
• Be an active part of the Material Management Committee
• Work with Purchasing Manager and department managers to encourage product standardization
• Orders all storeroom supplies on a periodic basis to ensure sufficient stock and plan proper stock organization
• Responsible for developing daily orders of routine General Store supplies
• Review and evaluate appropriate vendor selections for “stock” and “non-stock” purchasing
• Interact with sales representative in product evaluation and selection
• Ensure use of contract agreements and update manuals as needed
• Maintain purchasing document files with General Stores to ensure a smooth and timely processing of daily ordering
• Interact with departmental managers and other hospitals personnel regarding backorders, vendor selections, product specifications, etc.
• Assist with daily receipts and issue as needed
• Other duties as assigned or required

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in related field required
2. MBA preferred
3. Experience using material management software preferred
4. Excellent verbal and written skills
5. Advanced analytical skills
6. Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
7. Knowledge of the McKesson automated inventory system
8. Knowledge of stock and non-stock ordering and receiving
9. Knowledge in order processing and backorder follow-up
10. Computer literate
