Job Summary

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for processing the day-to-day accounting activities of the company, working closely with the Corporate Controller and AP Specialist. This role will be a foundational member of our accounting team and help drive and support best in class accounting work and process. This role is primarily responsible for accurate and efficient accounting in several balance sheet and income statement areas. The ideal candidate for this position takes pride in a job well done, pays close attention to detail, and exhibits excellent organizational skills, interpersonal and communication skills, and has the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This role will be highly collaborative with various departments within Affini-T. The Company’s office is located in Watertown, MA, however, the finance team is presently working remotely.

Key Responsibilities

• Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the charts of accounts and general ledger details.
• Ensure an accurate and timely month end close process, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations
• Own several areas of the balance sheet, including but not limited to, cash, prepaids, fixed assets, accruals.
• Review contracts to identify contractual liabilities and monitor contractual milestones.
• Prepare the R&D/clinical trial accruals
• Prepare payroll journal entry and assist in the payroll submission process as needed.
• Respond to inquiries from the Corporate Controller, VP Finance and others within the organization regarding financial results and information and ad hoc requests.
• Prepare request list items for auditors and address any questions that arise during the audit
• Assist with monthly/quarterly internal and external reporting requirements and analyses.
• Participate in the development of our internal controls structure, including the development of process narratives and control matrices. Prepare internal control supporting documentation in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (“SOX”).
• Actively participate in both system and process improvements by monitoring assigned areas for process improvements to ensure efficiency.
• Support budget and forecasting activities as needed.
• Create and update policies and process documents as needed.
• Assist with expense report processing as needed.
• Assist with other general accounting tasks or projects as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• 3+ years of combined experience in Finance and Accounting
• CPA or MBA completed or in process preferred
• Biotechnology experience preferred
• SEC experience preferred but not required
• Highest standards of accuracy and precision; highly organized
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize within a dynamic fast-paced work environment.
• Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to think creatively, highly driven and self-motivated
• Demonstrated ability to roll up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on capacity
• Experience with QuickBooks, Netsuite, Bill.com, Prendio or Expensify a plus
