The Principal Electrical Engineer (Product Engineering) will be to initiate and drive technology and/ or product development using in-depth technical expertise in a specific area or a broad range of skills in a technical field. Under the direction of the Product Engineering Manager performs a variety of engineering assignments and projects. Main electrical design and technical architecture owner of Global Center of Expertise and North American regional products.
Responsible for maintenance, quality and cost improvements, and product extensions of these products. Performs electrical engineering tasks, advanced computations, analysis, and research to achieve these goals. Proactively seeks and implements initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction. Electrical design owner of U.S Center of Expertise Drive Products. Responsible for design and architecture of regional products, executing projects cost-effectively and in accordance with quality standards and safety requirements.

Your responsibilities

• Owner of system design, control systems, and hardware architecture for global and regional design under responsibility. Lead projects for CoE (Center of Excellence) feature additions and extensions
• Monitor designs for product improvements, analyze and perform corrective actions for field quality issues. Write and implement ECNs related to these issues. Coordinate design changes at the product platform level with the Global Product Engineering Team
• Oversee maintenance of schematic and PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design files, bills of materials, approved vendor lists and manufacturing files for product responsible designs. Develop best practices for these activities
• Participate and lead improvement projects with global teams of internal and external partners. Provide guidance and training to staff to continually upgrade their skills and improve performance
• Investigate new technologies and suggest future state vision of drive products. Communicate these suggestions and lessons learned from current product, to drive improvements in new product development
• Direct and set procedures for complex testing to validate designs, qualify critical components and verify agency compliance
• Drive quality improvement and cost reduction activities for product responsible designs

Your background

• Bachelor degree in engineering and 8 years of engineering experience required.
• Safety mindset required.
• Circuit and PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design including thyristor and IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) control, flyback power supplies and multilayer PCBAs (Printed Circuit Board) highly preferred.
• Experience with hardware, software, and systems design. Knowledge of control systems and power electronics relating to motor control and AC (Alternating Current) motor drives preferred.
• Ability to use advanced test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and environmental chambers. Knowledge of testing at voltages from 230-600V and a familiarity with agency requirements such as UL (Underwriters Laboratories), CSA (Customer Support Agreement), CE (Civil Engineering), OSHPD, etc. highly preferred.
• Confidence to make recommendations, able to gather and analyze data and present findings to local and global engineering teams highly preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills, energetic and comfortable with self-directing assigned activities and leadership of an engineering team highly preferred. Strong initiative to manage and complete projects working both independently and in team environment highly preferred.
