ABB Inc. Looking for Automation Engineer at Pinetops, NC  Full Time

As an Automation Engineer, you will drive improvements in production of Instrument Transformers and Indoor & Outdoor products in Instrument Transformers & Sensors (ITS) Distribution Solutions Electrification in Pinetops, North Carolina.
In this role your focus will be on optimizing the manufacturing process through innovation in a cost-effective way, focusing on automatizing processes.

Production Development Manager

Your responsibilities

• Work with hand in hand with the Digitalization and Kaizen team, to define, design and develop the automation projects according to the Factory Transformation plan
• Drive improvements and CAPEX (CAPital EXpenditure) projects focusing on automation, mechatronics, and robotics, to lead to the factory of the future
• Develop feasibility studies, design & implementation of automation projects, including AGVs implementation, robotic cells, automated conveyors, etc.
• Investigate new methods, technologies and changes in equipment and process design to meet specifications
• Define action plans and training relevant maintenance and production resources and personnel to ensure smooth implementation of new processes
• Prepare technical documentation for the automation projects executed

Your background

• University degree in Engineering degree, (Mechanical, Electronics, Control, and Automation) with minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in automation/robotics. Experience with machine safety
• Knowledge of industrial robot operations and servo systems, including electrical and software interfaces, preferably have process knowledge in one or more disciplines such as assembly, material handling, winding, press automation, picking/packing/pallet applications, etc.
• Preferably have a working knowledge of control systems, I/O (Input / Output Control), PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and bus communication
• Experience in ABB Robots is a definite plus
• Experience in offline robot programming and simulation packages (RobotStudio) is a plus, experience in Layout Development and optimization
• Advanced level in English language (Speaking and writing skills)
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate and work with diverse discipline project teams
• Ability to learn new methods and technologies. Attention to detail
• Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
