This position reports to the Financial Services Program Manager. The Financial Services Program provides accounting related services to the client of 501 Commons.

Summary

This position provides direct bookkeeping services to our clients, and assistance and advice to Financial Services Associates (FSA).

The Senior FSA handles bookkeeping for clients on an ongoing basis, from recording payroll to reconciling bank statements to creating financial statements, as well as other accounting tasks. The Senior FSA manages several clients, providing monthly, quarterly, and year-end full-charge bookkeeping and/or controller functions such as budgeting, financial analysis, and complex project work.

Responsibilities

• Handles the accounting cycle and provides full charge bookkeeping and/or controller level support for assigned clients
• Ensures payroll, AP/AR functions, reconciliations, and financial statements are completed in an accurate and timely manner
• Ensures organizations policies and procedures are GAAP compliant
• Develops and maintains strong internal controls for assigned clients
• Consults and advises nonprofit organizations about best practices for financial operations
• Researches and makes recommendations to Clients regarding complex accounting issues such as revenue recognition protocols and release schedules
• May assist, provide advice and oversight to Financial Services Associates to ensure accurate recordkeeping for clients
• Performs other duties as assigned

Competencies and Qualifications

Required

• Minimum five years of accounting experience within a nonprofit environment
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or equivalent experience
• Mastery of QuickBooks (desktop and online) and MS Excel
• Demonstrates in-depth proficiency of nonprofit accounting principles including fund accounting, GAAP, compliance requirements, and best practices
• Effective time management skills, as demonstrated by being self-directed in managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
• Ability to communicate accounting concepts in ways that are easily understood by all audiences
• Ability to be adaptable and flexible in order to meet the needs of diverse organizations

• CPA, EA or other certifications desirable but not required
