Job Summary and Qualifications
Lab Assistants will draw blood samples to be analyzed by laboratory personnel and interpreted by Pathologists for patient diagnoses. When collecting blood samples, they will ensure proper patient identification and labeling of samples. The Phlebotomist may perform special tests such as clotting time, bleeding time, and/or glucose tolerance tests and report results. For all tests/samples collected, they will maintain records of tests performed and samples taken, as well as maintain needed equipment and supplies.
EXPERIENCE: Excellent customer service skills and comfortable drawing blood / handling specimens required. At least 1-year experience in phlebotomy preferred. Specimen handling experience a plus.
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required.
CERTIFICATION: BLS within 30 days of hire required. ASCP/ASPT certified phlebotomist or equivalent preferred.
